Patient Guide to Surgery

The Day Before Your Surgery

Inform your doctor if there is any change in your health, such as a cold, infection, flu, or fever. Check with your doctor about eating restrictions on the day prior to your procedure. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight on the night before your procedure, unless otherwise instructed. Follow your doctor’s instructions to the letter. Failure to do so may result in postponement of your procedure. A representative of the Surgery Center may call you prior to your scheduled procedure to discuss your arrival time, the start time of the procedure, and to obtain information required for billing and/or payment.

The Day of Your Procedure

You must have a responsible person drive you home; (if taking any form of public transportation, you must have a responsible person accompany you other than the driver). For the convenience of all parties, we kindly ask that any accompanying individuals stay in the vehicle unless they are assisting you with translation and/or completing paperwork. A nurse will notify them as soon as you have arrived into the recovery room. Please arrive at least one hour before the scheduled time of your procedure, unless otherwise directed by your physician. When you arrive at Premier Surgery Center, you will check in at the admitting desk, the receptionist will provide you with the necessary paperwork to complete. Please ensure that you bring your insurance cards and a valid form of identification.

After Your Procedure

After your procedure your doctor will leave written instructions for you to follow. These will be reviewed with you and your driver and explained by one of our nurses.

At discharge, you will be wheeled down to the car and driven home by your designated driver. Again, you may ONLY take public transportation if accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 escorting you home (not including the driver). If you have any questions or problems following your procedure, please contact your doctor. In the event of an emergency, call your doctor, or the Emergency Department at the hospital nearest to you.

We hope that your short stay with us will be as pleasant and convenient as possible. If you see something that may improve our service to you, please feel free to let your nurse know.

Transportation

Please make arrangements to have a responsible adult drive you to the Surgery Center, take you home after you are discharged, and stay with you the first night post-operatively.  When you check in, the Surgery Center will confirm that you have a ride home.  If you arrive unaccompanied and they cannot reach your designated contact by phone to confirm that you have suitable transportation, your surgery will be canceled.

A patient may take public transportation such as Uber, Lyft, Taxi, Para Transit, Round trip, Link County Connection, ONLY if accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 escorting them home.
